And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Acts 2:42

What’s in a name? A lot when it comes to Providence Baptist Church.

We are a local congregation of Christians who delight in knowing we’ve been saved “according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will” (Ephesians 1:11).

In other words, God is in control.

And because he is in control “we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). What a great comfort in this fallen, fragile world to know we have a heavenly Father who is in the details of our lives ensuring that we make it to glory. The providence of God truly is amazing grace, as John Newton sang in 1779:

Amazing grace (how sweet the sound)
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come:
'tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.
